| Abstract |
The first edition of the Diccionario Básico Escolar (DBE) was published in July 2003. This dictionary has been produced by the Centro de Lingüística Aplicada (Applied Linguistics Centre, Santiago de Cuba, Cuba), being its main goal to improve the competence in Spanish of the dictionary’s target group: students of the second cycle of primary school (5th and 6th degrees), basic secondary school and preuniversity courses.
Thanks to the collaboration with the IXA Research Group of the University of the Basque Country and the Cuban Book Institute, the possibility of developing the second and third editions of the DBE was given to our institution, which started the laborious and complicated task of improving and amending a considerable number of entries, as well as of adding entries to this important reference work.
The Diccionario Básico Escolar is available in print, CD and on-line (http://ixa2.si.ehu.es/dbe/index.html). The second and third editions have undergone a complete revision of the three media.
Dictionaries are ‘living beings’; a dictionary that has had several editions has to be continuously reviewed, since there are always entries to be improved, others that have to be added or fixed due to human errors, etc. until you obtain an almost perfect work.
In this paper, our goal is to analyze leXkit, a lexicographic edition environment, and the different features and results of the second and third editions of the DBE, comparing them to those of the first one, aiming to show the ‘vitality’ of this linguistic and pedagogic tool. |
