Title The Meanings of Swedish dra ‘pull’: a Case Study of Lexical Polysemy
Abstract A brief sketch is given of the general structure of the motion verb field in Swedish. Of centra] interest is the pattern of polysemy exemplified by the Swedish verb dra 'pull, draw'. A prototypical meaning representation is postulated and non-prototypical cases are derived by general mechanisms of meaning extension such as focusing, resultative strengthening and metaphor.
