5. ACCOMMODATION

Conference delegates are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.

There are numerous guest houses and hotels in the vicinity of the conference venue, and only a few are listed in Addendum A. They are arranged according to proximity to the conference venue. The venues listed in the first section are within easy walking distance of the campus (10 – 15 minutes’ walk); those in the second section are for delegates who like a little exercise (20 – 30 minutes’ brisk walk), whereas those in the third section are within walking distance for marathon runners only.

6. TRANSPORT

6.1 Airport transfers

Conference delegates are responsible for arranging their own transport between the airport and their accommodation upon arrival and departure. We strongly recommend that delegates take the Gautrain from O.R. Tambo Airport to Hatfield station. The cost is R125 for a single trip, and the last train departs from O.R. Tambo at 20:30. The Hatfield station is 15 minutes’ walk from the university. For more information regarding train schedules and transfers, please visit http://www.gautrain.co.za/. Should your arrival time make it impossible to use the Gautrain, we recommend that you make arrangements with the following reliable shuttle service:

Mr Gert Louw:
E-mail: gert.louw1@gmail.com (Preferred means of booking)
Tel.: +27 (0)12 460 5116
Cell: 082 567 6502

6.2 Transport between places of accommodation and the conference venue

The conference organisers can unfortunately not provide transport between places of accommodation and the conference venue. Most guest houses can, upon request, provide such a service. Alternatively, arrangements can also be made with Mr Louw (see 6.1) for transport between places of accommodation and the conference venue.

7. CONFERENCE ORGANISATION

Please direct all enquiries to the local organiser:
Elsabé Taljard
E-mail: elsabe.taljard@up.ac.za (Preferred means of communication)

8. CALL FOR PAPERS

Invited: Papers on any aspect of lexicography or terminology

All papers will be adjudicated.

Prospective presenters are to submit abstracts to reach AFRILEX before 31 March 2012. Abstracts must be between 600 and 800 words long for adjudicators to make informed judgements on the central argument of the paper, especially given that conference proceedings are not published. Abstracts should contain the following elements: a central argument, how the study was conducted and some (preliminary) conclusions. Papers that do not comply with these requirements will unfortunately be rejected.

Abstracts should be sent by e-mail to Ms Jill Wolvaardt: E-mail address: j.wolvaardt@ru.ac.za | Postal address: Dictionary Unit for South African English, Rhodes University, P.O. Box 94, Grahamstown 6140, South Africa | Tel.: +27 (0)46 603 7243 | Fax: +27 (0)46 603 8107.

Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged and feedback will be given to authors as soon as it is received back from the adjudicators. Abstracts of accepted papers will be distributed during the conference. MS PowerPoint presentation facilities will be available. As a backup, presenters will be asked to e-mail their slide show ahead of the conference.

Please note: It is compulsory for presenters of papers, workshops and special sessions to register in advance (i.e. before 1 June 2012).
