Title Traduire avec un dictionnaire, traduire pour un dictionnaire
Abstract Translation is a well-researched subject that is broadly taught. However, dictionary translation has been mostly left out of translation studies. Only dictionary reviewers may mention that a translation is not what they would have expected. In this paper dictionary translation is looked at as a special kind of translation that is governed by its own laws. Dictionary translation is considered as part of the dictionary-making process. This paper looks at the criteria that can be used to evaluate it and at the benefits that machine-readable dictionary text can bring to dictionary translation and how it may give a new impetus to dictionary-translation studies.
