Abstract |
This paper reports on a research into dictionary use carried out with a few Italian university students and Italian teachers of English as a foreign language. Different expectations on the actual use of dictionaries on the part of students as opposed to teachers were hypothesized on the basis of the different degree of their knowledge of English and of their presumably different occasions of consultation. These hypotheses have been confirmed by the results of the research whose purpose was to verify and assess, on the one hand, the actual use of dictionaries, and, partly, their performance; on the other, the validity of the approach itself. |
