Title Electronic Dictionary Encoding: Customizing the TEI Guidelines
Abstract The Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) Guidelines propose an encoding scheme that is applicable to a large variety of dictionaries. This paper takes a widely-used and simple French dictionary (Petit Larousse Illustre) as an example to describe some of the problems that arise when using the TEI Document Type Definition (DTD), particularly from an editorial standpoint, where it is necessary to retain the presentational features of a text. It also discusses general issues in DTD customizing and compatibility.
