| Abstract |
Our paper aims to present synthetically the project known as Atlante Linguistico ed Etnografico del Piemonte Occidentale [Linguistic and Ethnographic Atlas of Western Piedmont] (ALEPO) through the main stages of its development. After a brief introduction on its origins, purposes and methodological principles, we will deal with the complex stages of the computerization of the data, which was a turning point for our editorial staff. The electronic conversion allowed us to obtain a data bank, on the one hand, and an almost completely automatized edition program, on the other hand. Above all our contribution will underline the importance of the indexes (index of dialectal forms and index of the answers given in each village, in particular), when a cross analysis of the data is needed; thus it is not surprising that the indexes give us the chance to combine lexicological and areal linguistics' insights. |
