Abstract |
The article deals with the way we have come to single out the new word list of the Grande Dizionario dell'Uso: it takes into account sources, selection criteria, and identification of meaningful subjects areas, traditionally overlooked by dictionaries (e.g. intellectual and sociological language). Furthermore, it highlights the need for orderly check on the net, mainly as regards usage frequency, recognition of new meanings and first evidence of entries, which become "sliding" categories, subject to possible and ongoing variations. Finally, it deals with the testing of the same pattern on a sectorial, highly changing language, such as youth slang. |
