Abstract The ultimate aim of the present research is the creation of a French-Ukrainian dictionary of unconventional language. This presentation focuses on the problem of stylistic labelling in dictionaries. The existence of a problem appeared with an analysis of four monolingual French dictionaries and two bilingual French-Russian ones. The absence of labelling criteria common to lexicographers causes subjectivity and therefore disagreement between authors in the usage labelling of lexical items. In order to remedy this, the author resorted to sociolinguistic methods, in particular to a survey by questionnaire.
