Title Policy for the Treatment of Insulting and Sensitive Lexical Items in the Woordeboek van die Afrikaanse Taal
Abstract The policy for the treatment of insulting and sensitive lexical items in the Woordeboek van die Afrikaanse Taal states that all such lexical items be included, labelled and explained in the printed form of the WAT, but that no collocations and editorial usage examples be given with them. In the case of racist terms, but not with other kinds of insulting and sensitive lexical items, no hurtful synonyms, no semantic oppositions, references and citations or other usage examples will be included. This excluded information, with the exception of collocations and editorial usage examples, as well as all citations which reflect a negative attitude towards any population group, is included in an electronic version. The electronic manuscript can be made available to bona fide users on request and in accordance with the Bureau's current policy.
