Title Prolegomena to a multilingual description of collocations
Abstract We discuss collocation from the perspective of the non-native speaker. Bilingual dictionaries fail to pay due attention to the phenomenon in a systematic way. A broader definition of collocation is argued for and it is shown that, from such a broader perspective, the very same semantic content may be expressed alternatively, but still collocationally, with syntactical, morphological or lexical means. Thus, a treatment of collocations based on conceptual rather than grammatical principles is called for.
